This document provides some basic facts about the Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation (PGLAF). PGLAF is the not-for-profit corporation that receives and processes donations to Project Gutenberg, and seek fundraising opportunities.

Mission

To:

  1. Preserve literary and other intellectual works, and
  2. Make copies of or products based on those works available free of charge or at the lowest possible cost to the people of the United States and the rest of the world. (Adapted from the Articles of Incorporation)

Type of Organization

PGLAF is a not-for-profit corporation registered in the state of Mississippi. The registered office address of the corporation is 4557 Melan Drive S., Fairbanks AK 99712.

Tax Status

PGLAF has been granted tax exempt status by the IRS under section 501(c)(3) of the US Internal Revenue Code. It has EIN #64-6221541. A PDF scan of the IRS determination letter is here.

Employees

PGLAF currently employs Michael Hart, who founded Project Gutenberg in 1971, as Executive Coordinator. PGLAF employs Anne Wingate and T Wingate as part-time Project Coordinators and office managers.
